Jazz Vocal Ensemble at William Paterson University

Directed by award-winning New York City jazz vocalist Nancy Marano, this ensemble focuses on small ensemble jazz singing in the style of Manhattan Transfer and New York Voices. Students in this highly select group include experienced vocal musicians with exceptional skills in ear-training and sight-singing who wish to pursue extended work in the genre of jazz singing and improvisation. As part of the internationally recognized Jazz curriculum at William Paterson students perform throughout the year on Jazz concerts, Dialogue Days, and in local clubs.

The Jazz Studies Program is unique among college programs. It is one of the few in the country with real emphasis on small-group playing and singing and a genuine commitment to the jazz tradition. Its artist/teacher faculty is made up of world-class New York area professionals and is second to none. The Program is a true jazz environment in which students learn firsthand about the jazz world and the requirements for becoming a successful professional musician. Their performance on the 2017 Collage concert can be found here.
